I don’t think reluctance to move forward with data centers is fear mongering, I think it’s lack of understanding. Regular people who live with data centers have the right to know what they are living with, and to have the information needed to make informed decisions. I think it’s the not knowing that leads to not in my backyard reactions.
I’m in favor of a moratorium for how ever long it takes to build understanding, and build the technology necessary to make data centers a contributing partner to safe water, safe air, safe noise levels etc, rather than a threat.
Well written, checking in with all sides to be fair. My humble opinion… is, no…hell no on data centers. They are an environment disaster, and communities around the country are realizing there is no upside to them. A waste of resources, and minimal job gain.
Goodness sakes! This is fear mongering and nothing more. Data Centers use closed loop cooling, heating and cooling water. If you want to be forward thinking, why not use cogeneration to use hot water to generate electricity.
