Monthly Recap: March 2026
Zebulon approvals, New CORA tracker testing, and more
Last week, Kim and I sat down with Emily Suyat to discuss Zebulon for two episodes of Red County, Blue State. Catch up on the County Commissioner’s special meeting for Zebulon approvals.
This March marks the one year anniversary of the County Commissioners launching the (doomed) Home Rule initiative. Those actions eventually led to the founding of The Lantern.
The Numbers
In the last six months, The Lantern’s paid subscriber revenue has more than doubled and our total subscriber numbers have increased 80%! We have had a steady interest in opinion columns, but we are also eager to find more guest contributors to our news coverage. If you’re interested in writing for The Lantern send an email here.
What’s Ahead
We are currently working on several big stories including coverage of the Perry Park Water District, our ongoing deep dive into Douglas County’s water infrastructure, developments with Zebulon and more.
You can send tips, leads, and ideas for stories here.
CORA Tracker
At the request of community organizers, The Lantern is sponsoring an online CORA request tracker at DougCoCora.org. It is still in a beta test but if you are submitting CORA requests, or want to see what others have requested, we hope you’ll eventually find the database to be a worthwhile resource.
Wildfire Tracking App
As wildfire season approaches after a historic drought, we highly recommend downloading the app Watch Duty to see potentially life-saving updates about wildfires in your area.
